How to Add Any Email Address to Your iPhone

Every Apple device comes with the default Mail app that allows you to add any email addresses you wish to use. Apple also makes it easy to add as many email addresses as you want, which sync across other devices using your Apple ID. We’ll show you how to add any email address to your iPhone, which can be done automatically or manually.

Add a New Email Account Automatically

If you have an iCloud, Exchange, Google, Yahoo, AOL, or Outlook email address, you can add it to your iPhone automatically. It can be completed in under a minute. Follow the instructions below:

1. On your iPhone, launch the Settings app, then navigate to “Mail -> Accounts.”

2. Tap on “Add Account,” and a new screen will appear, listing a number of popular email providers.

3. Once you choose your email provider, enter your email address when prompted. In some instances, it may ask for your username, phone number, or even your Skype credentials. Follow the prompts to also add your password or other details. iOS will verify your account by contacting your email provider. This should be a quick verification.

4. Lastly, depending on the type of email account you’d like to add, you can also choose to sync other information, such as your contacts, calendars, etc.

From this moment on, you can use the Mail app on your iPhone to interact with your email account. By going back to ‘Settings -> Mail,” you can customize your experience further.

Add a New Email Account Manually

If you decide to add a new email to your iPhone manually, you’ll get additional options to instruct the Mail app to contact your email provider in a specific way. If you use an email provider other than the popular email providers, you will have to add your email address this way. Follow the instructions below:

1. Navigate to “Settings -> Mail -> Accounts,” then tap on “Add Account.” The list of the most popular email providers will appear. Select “Other.”

2. Pick “Add Mail Account.” Input your name, email address, password, and description, then tap on “Next.”

3. Your iPhone will now contact your email provider, trying to finalize the procedure. If that doesn’t happen, you’ll need to enter additional information.

4. If asked to enter additional information, choose your type of email account (IMAP or POP). Input the required information of your Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server. If you’re unsure, check with your email provider.

5. Your iPhone will check the validity of the provided information. If everything is okay, tap “Save” to finish adding your email address.

That’s it! You are now free to use the Mail app on your iPhone to receive, view, and send emails. Keep in mind that it may take some time for the Mail app to sync all of your emails.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use an email app other than the default Mail?

Yes. You can use the Gmail app or any others that you favor more than Mail. Do note that you will have to add your email addresses separately in the other app. The steps above won’t work for third-party email apps. In “Settings -> Mail,” you can set a third-party email app as your default.

Is it okay to use more than one email address?

Yes, iOS will handle this just fine, and the Mail app will show all your email accounts. You can also choose which email address you want to be your default.

Can I add an email address to my iPad using these same methods used for iPhone?

Yes. Adding an email address is done the same way in iPadOS as it’s done in iOS.

Do I have to add my email addresses every time I get a new iPhone or iPad?

It depends. If you sign in to your new device with a backup of a prior device, it will keep all your settings, including your email addresses. But if you start with a blank device, you will need to add your email addresses.
