On my new iPhoneSE contact numbers and callers names could not be synced using every internet suggestion found. So last resort simply removed SIM card and immediately reinserted. Bingo it cleared the problem

This might be helpful for iPhone, but I have the problem of some (not all) contacts appearing as numbers, not names, on iPad- not on iPhone. I cannot find the answer to this problem here – or anywhere else!
