How to Add a Customized Vibration Pattern to Contacts in Android

By giving a specific vibration to a contact, you can know who is calling you without having to take out your phone. Setting this up is easier than you may think, so even if you’re not very tech-savvy, you’ll be able to set this up.

How to Give a Contact a Specific Vibration Pattern (Possible Stock Option)

To know that it’s your mom calling without having to look at your phone, open your Contacts app and open the contact. Tap to edit it. When the contact opens, swipe all the way down. Tap on the “More option > Vibration pattern,” and it will be set to default.

When you tap on this option, your Android device will open to the stock vibration patterns it has. You can choose from patterns such as default, basic call, heartbeat, ticktock, waltz, and zig-zig-zig. Repeat the steps for the contacts you want to give a specific vibration pattern to.

Keep in mind that you might not find this on your device since it will depend on the brand of your smartphone and the Android version it’s using. If this happens to you, you can always use a third-party app to give a contact a customized vibration pattern.

How to Add a Custom Vibration Pattern to a Specific Contact

The first method showed how you can choose a stock vibration pattern on your Android device (if available). With this second method you can create your own vibration pattern using Good Vibrations.

To get started, you will need to give the app specific permissions such as access to your contacts and calls. The app will also ask whether you want it to guide you on how to use it.

To create your custom vibration, tap on the red circle at the bottom right, and choose “Add Call Action.” To add the contact for the custom vibration, tap on the green circle at the bottom right. Choose the “Pick Contact” option, and ap on the contact you want to add from the list.

The vibration pattern list will appear, and and you can choose one from the list if you want. If you’re going to create a vibration pattern for that contact, tap on “New Pattern” at the bottom left. Tap on the red circle at the bottom and choose the “Tap your pattern” option.

How to Make a Vibration Pattern Repeat

Tap the pattern you want to create on your screen. To test it, tap on the play button at the top. You should feel the exact pattern you just created. If all is good, tap on the checkmark followed by the save option attached to the image of a floppy disk. By tapping on the Repeat option, you can set how many times you want the pattern to repeat.

Make sure to also give your pattern a name so you can easily identify it from all the others. Tap the back button until you’re back at your contact, then tap the Pattern option, find the pattern you created, and tap OK.

If you want this pattern to play when the screen is on or when you’re on a call, make sure to tap on those two options, and then select your pattern once more. These two options will be right on top of each other so they will be easy to find.

When you’ve added everything you want, tap on the back button until you’re at the very beginning.
