For Windows users, its login password is one of the most important things to remember. In case you forget it, there are third-party software tools that will help you reset your password.

Another way to log back into your Windows 10 system is to use a password reset disk. You should set up this recovery tool in advance just in case you lose your password or can’t remember it. Calling Microsoft for support won’t be of use since they can’t help you log back in, so it is best for you to take precaution.

Creating a Password Reset Disk Using USB Drive

To begin, insert any USB drive and use the search bar to locate the “password reset disk” in the Control Panel. It should be very visible.

In case you could not locate it from the search button, go to the Control Panel and click your main user account. Go to “Make changes to your user account,” and you should have the option to create a password reset disk.

Password Reset Disk From User Accounts

For some users, in case the link does not open, you should go to the Task Manager and close a Windows host process called “Rundll32.” This is a Windows command line utility program that can interfere with password recovery, so disable it.

Close Rundll32

At the next step you can see a “Forgotten Password Wizard” screen which guides you to the disk creation. It does warn you, though, that anyone who has access to your password recovery disk will be able to access your account. Always store your USB recovery disk somewhere safe.

In case you don’t want to go through all the above steps to create a password recovery disk, there is an easier way out. Use a password manager to save your Windows password, or save it somewhere only you can access it. You must frequently update your latest Windows password there.
